Update from the Colac ICC

Colac ICC Update to the Wye River & Separation Creek communities.

Wye River & Separation Creek Specific Update:

  • The Great Ocean Road between Wye River and Separation Creek remains closed on active landslide area. Monitoring equipment is being sourced to monitor earth movement on Paddy’s Path. Medium and long term strategies are being discussed.
  • No foot access to or along Paddy’s Path or the Great Ocean Road between Wye River and Separation Creek. However the Colac ICC is exploring alternatives.
  • Council is developing long term future drainage options.
  • Stanway Fire Trail, limited to Iluka Ave, are temporary options for access between Wye River and Separation Creek.
  • Dollar Drive extension has been explored and currently deemed too dangerous as an alternative.
  • If you see something, say something. Call 000 directly. Do not call Apollo Bay Police directly for emergencies including reports of new landslides, falling rocks, cracks and other issues like this as this will delay the time it takes to get the necessary services there.
  • The Colac ICC is working with geotech engineers and EMV in Iluka and Wallace Avenue, due to increasing tension cracks above Paddy’s Path. EMV has made contact with property owners in Iluka Ave.
  • A doctor will visit Wye River Monday 26th September to a conduct clinic. Please ensure you book directly through the medical clinic on Friday 23/9/2016 on ph: (03) 5289 4333.
  • Community information teams will be in Wye River around 1pm on Friday 23/9/2016.
  • The next community meeting will be held on Saturday 24th September at 3pm.

The Great Ocean Road Overview:

  • The Great Ocean Road has now been closed since 14 September due to landslides and roadway substructure damage. Current number of landslides includes 80+ above the road and 40+ landslides below the road.
  • Great Ocean Road Access:
    • Separation Creek to Cumberland River remains closed to traffic, potentially opened with vehicle restrictions by the end of the weekend. However VicRoads cannot guarantee a time frame.
    • Wye River to Separation Creek road remains closed, potentially 3 weeks before reopening – it will be single lane access on the ocean side with some restrictions. Long term fix is yet to be determined.
  • Stabilisation and road clearing works have been completed between Lorne and Cumberland River. This section is now open to visitors to Cumberland River Holiday Park with exception of buses and trucks longer than 12 meters or heavier than 12 tonnes. VicRoads crews are now focusing on the next section of the Great Ocean Road from Cumberland River to Separation Creek.
  • The Great Ocean Road continues to be open from Skenes Creek to Wye River for all traffic except for buses and trucks longer than 12 metres or heavier than 12 tonnes. An exception applies for garbage trucks and Grocon contractor vehicles to perform urgent immediate safety works along this section of road.
  • A wider community update will be provided Friday morning to let everyone know that Wye River is open for business.
