Update from VicRoads

Great Ocean Road landslide update 2 November 5pm

The Great Ocean Road is OPEN to all traffic.

Reduced speeds and one lane of traffic is providing access for vehicles at some locations on the Great Ocean Road, including the section of road between Wye River and Separation Creek.

Recent rain has not caused any significant movement at the landslide sites.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting
up to 3mm of rain on Friday. While it is unlikely this amount of rain would trigger the threshold to close the road, we still encourage drivers to stay informed by visiting the VicTraffic website or calling 13 11 70.

Our aim is to have two lanes open to traffic by Christmas. However, the unpredictable nature of the environment makes it extremely difficult to put a timeframe on repairs. If our geotechnical ground sensory equipment detects significant movement or saturation, we will not hesitate to close the road.

Concrete barriers are currently under construction for unstable sites near Wye River and Separation Creek. A 50m long x 3m high concrete retaining wall will be installed at the road side below Paddy’s Path and several concrete panels will be installed below the road east of Separation Creek. A site compound will be set up near Sarsfield Street in Separation Creek and works are expected to start next week.

VicRoads would like to thank local residents, business owners and visitors for their patience while we work to maintain safe access along this iconic road.
