Wastewater management report released

A report has been released into wastewater options for bushfire-affected properties in the areas of Wye River and Separation Creek.

The report by Coffey Environments Australia for the Victorian Government and Colac Otway Shire aims to help property owners and architects understand the design constraints and risks associated with rebuilding or repairing affected sites. It provides architects and builders engaged by residents with technical information about the wastewater management options available.

The report contains a range of options for properties that can and cannot contain wastewater on site. For properties that cannot contain wastewater on site, this may include a single wastewater management system for a group of properties (known as a cluster system) amongst other options.

When you are ready to rebuild or repair your home, download a copy of the report (Part 1 and Part 2) and provide it to your architect or builder. If you don’t currently have an architect or builder, you are encouraged to make an appointment with the One Stop Shop to assist you with your rebuilding process.

You can also visit the One Stop Shop to use a web-based mapping tool to view selected features and findings of the settlement-wide assessments relating to the fire-impacted properties.

Staff will also be able to click on a map and view the relevant information for a particular site. This is a valuable tool for the council as well as designers engaged by the property owner to understand the constraints and risks associated with the sites, and to determine what additional investigations are required.

Conversations with community will be ongoing.

Read the fact sheet for more information and to book an appointment at the One Stop Shop, contact the Bushfire Recovery Information Centre on 03 5232 9400 (select 1).
